A COUPLE OF ROLL UPS || CROCHET HOOKS AND HARPS

In Nov last year I was brainstorming xmas presents as I wanted trying to hand make a few rather than buying everything. I knew I wanted to make a crochet hook holder for Jake's mum. She has recently started crocheting and loves it, so I thought this would be a cool present.

I found heaps of inspiration on pinterest, but ultimately decided to just design my own and wing it. I knew the basic dimensions I wanted to make it, and I knew I wanted a little pocket for stitch markers.

I did accidentally sew the ties as one on each end, then realised that when it rolled up one of them was inside the roll! Oops! I wasn't thinking there, but it was easily fixed. The one thing that could have been different is the length of the ties, they are a bit short for my liking. Overall, I am really happy with how it turned out though, and Jake's mum loved it! Jake spotted the fabric while we were at spotlight searching one day, and I loved it straight away. His mum's nickname is Beez, so it was a good fit.

I decided to sew along the top of the flap so it was forced to stay down when rolled up, which I think works well. I think it looks really good with all the hooks in it! I'll have to make myself one too!

I also decided to make something similar for Jake's dad. They travel a lot and I thought something like this to hold chargers and cables would be good for him. The first one I made was red on the inside, with a galaxy print fabric on the outer. Unfortunately I didn't take any photos of this one. I really need to get in the habit of taking photos of everything I make (and not photograph my shadow like above).

While Jake's parents were visiting in late Nov last year I decided to make him another for his birthday, and more specifically to hold his harmonicas. He LOVES his harmonicas. He had bought a few with him, but was carrying them around individually, so Jake's mum and I thought he could use something to hold them!

The mushroom fabric was left over from a fat quarter I used to make a bandanna for our whippet. When he spotted it he thought it was pretty cool. I think it looks pretty funky, and the harps fit in it well. I have one myself (though I can't play), so I used it as a guide for the pockets. I thought 4 would be enough to carry, and not be too bulky. I made sure there was a gap between the two outer pockets, so there was a little extra room when rolling and it seemed to work well. This time I made the ties longer and it is definitely better.

It turned out to be a good gift idea. I'm also going to make one for our Nan's's birthday I think. I might even try and make a pattern for it to share, when I can figure out the best way to do that!
