YOU ME AND TORQUAY

One sunny day back in April, Jake and I decided to go on a trip down to Torquay. The GPS combined with some road works confused us along the way, but we eventually made it.

It was a windy day, with a bit of a chill, but the sun was shining beautifully and the air felt so fresh. After we parked, we pulled out our camera bag and went for a stroll along the esplanade. There were cyclists everywhere due to an event. Even though summer had technically ended, it felt like it was just starting.

A place called Growlers was where we decided to have some lunch. I had originally planned to take us to another cafe, however once we were there we just picked the first place that looked nice. It was a cafe with a strong beach feel. Lots of ropes and buoys hanging around the walls and ceiling. The food was yummy too.

After lunch we strolled some more and then parked ourselves on the grass looking towards to sea. We saw an elderly couple sitting in the sun in their fold up chairs, after some time they picked up their chairs and moved about 15m away and set up their chairs again, just enjoying the day.

A beautiful hawk of some sort* flew into view and rode the wind for a little while. Then it suddenly flew down and snatched up something off the beach. It took us a while to decide what the hawk had caught, was it a fish, or was it a bird? We settled on a bird. It took it's meal up in one of the tall trees. I tried to sneak around to get some photos from a different angle, but it watching me the whole time and eventually took off.

It was such a nice day. We hope for some more weekend sunshine soon, our next day trip I have planned is to Daylesford.

*bird identification skills are lacking - need to work on that.
